First Wednesdays: Lecture, Cocktail Hour, and Music

Featuring speakers Brett Long, Curator of Mammals and Birds and Megan Smylie, Sea Otter Program Manager.

Southern sea otters (Enhydra lutris), are a charismatic species that have the ability to transform and protect entire ecosystems, while indirectly helping to reduce atmospheric carbon.

The Aquarium of the Pacific has been home to southern sea otters since its inception in 1998. In February 2020, the Aquarium was given an incredible opportunity to partner with Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Sea Otter Surrogacy Program. The goal of this collaboration is to provide a greater positive impact on the wild populations of these keystone species.

Join us to learn about the past, present and future of California sea otters and The Aquarium of the Pacific’s sea otter surrogacy program.

This presentation with Q&A will take place in the Aquarium’s Honda Pacific Visions Theater. Following their talk, there will be cocktails and other beverages available, with music and crafts in the Pacific Visions Art Gallery, where guests can mix and mingle and partake in Paint-a-Fish.
