Meet Seth Bloomgarden. Founder of Lublu Sup & Wellness in Miami, Florida and Vice Chair of Surfrider Miami

Hi Seth, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Seth Bloomgarden - is a waterman and adventurer. He swam competitively, was a life guard, and a sailor in his younger years. He has been a lifelong outdoor adventure and fitness enthusiast. He was trained as a wilderness leader by NOLS the National Outdoor Leadership School - the global leader in wilderness education in their intensive Semester program in the Kenya - East Africa Branch program. Seth’s training with NOLS was dedicated to teaching environmental ethics, technical outdoor skills, safety, judgment, and leadership on extended wilderness expeditions.

NOLS is the leading source for wilderness skills and leadership training. After years as a competitive long distance runner, he found his way into paddle sports in the early 1990’s. He has been paddling for over 25 years, first in a kayak and then on a SUP.

Seth has since developed a passion (some may say obsession) for Paddle boarding (SUP) and you can frequently find him training with the sport’s top professional athletes, teaching new students, and leading SUP tours from New York’s Hudson River, Long Island’s Beaches, and South Florida’s Oceans, Bays and waterways, to exotic locations in Maui, Kauai, Oahu, Costa Rica, Honduras, Portugal, and Brazil. He loves to share this passion and to introduce new people to Surf culture and the Sport of Stand-up Paddling.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience with paddleboarding
In 2013 Seth successfully completed the Sea Paddle NYC Sup race. A grueling, 25+ mile race circumnavigating Manhattan.  In 2013 only about 1/3 of the participants who started were able to finish the Sea Paddle Race do to the unprecedented extreme conditions.

Location Overview - Tell us about your water environment
To really see Miami, you must get out on the water. And there is no better way to enjoy the experience than on a Stand up paddle board tour around Biscayne Bay. It’s the most fun and exciting way to experience the beauty of Miami.

During our tours it is very common to spot dolphins, rays, manatees, and all kinds of tropical fish. The tour is led by knowledgeable local guides who know the waters intimately.  The guides offer fun facts and unique observations about the area. You will paddle the warm tropical blue green waters of the bay. Enjoy exciting sights including Miami Beach, the multi-million dollar exclusive island homes of celebrities, luxurious Mega Yachts of Miami’s rich and famous, and the skyline of downtown Miami.

What services do you offer?
We offer Lessons, Excursions, Flat Water, Downwinders, Race Training, Rentals, Sunset Paddle, Tours and Workouts.

Our tours vary in direction, and distance traveled depending on the wind, tides, marine conditions of the day and fitness level of the participants.  Typically we will tour some of the beautiful islands in Biscayne Bay including the Sunset Islands, Venetian Islands, Hibiscus Island, Star Island, Palm Island, and Monument Island.  On warm days we may stop at a sandy island beach in the center of Biscayne Bay for a refreshing swim.

Are there any other local attractions others may be interested in?
You can't beat seeing dolphins.  When they appear its magical.

Surfrider Miami

OUR MISSION

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over over 250,000 supporters, activists and members and 100 chapters worldwide.

The Miami chapter was started by Wyatt Porter Brown and T.C in 1997, to begin pressing the City of Miami Beach to enforce existing litter laws and reverse the trashing of our local beaches.

Surfrider protects 5,656 miles of coastline - that's an average of 71 miles for each of our chapters. While that is great news for our beaches, Surfrider is only at 56% capacity to support our volunteer network and their stretch of coast.
