Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Straddie Stand Up Paddle, an ASI accredited learn to stand up paddle school, located on Stradbroke Island which is just off the coast of Brisbane in Moreton Bay. It is a one hour drive from the Gold Coast or Brisbane international and domestic airports and 50 minutes from Brisbane city.
Straddie Stand Up Paddle is owned and operated by Chris Semple. He's been a surfer all his life and has elite-advanced level surfing skill and has been actively involved in the surfing boardriders club. Chris starting supping in 2012, on the days there was no surf. Pretty soon he was hooked. He started SUP surfing on the outer banks at Stradbroke Island that hardly anyone surfed. It’s a long way out in the ocean and easier to paddle out on a SUP board than paddle a surfboard by hand.
Chris started the SUP school as a way to introduce others to SUP plus Stradbroke Island has perfect supping locations for all levels. Chris is an experienced surfing instructor and setting up the SUP School just made good sense. He holds ASI Level 1 (Enclosed Flat Water), Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters) and Level 3 SUP Instructor (Beginner Surfer) surf rescue and first aid qualifications. He is assisted in the SUP school with experienced and accredited SUP instructors.
Straddie Stand Up Paddle offers group and private SUP lessons, certificate courses and SUP tours for kids, adults, parties, school groups, backpackers, universities and corporates.
Lessons are held in the calm waters of the inland waterways, protected for the winds. There are also protected ocean bays with flat water and also SUP surfing locations ideal for the beginner. No matter what the conditions, there is an ideal supping location for all levels.
Stradbroke Island has beautiful scenery, very natural, with scenic headlands and protected coves. There are turtle breeding grounds, lots of flora and an abundance of marine life.
Chris has a wealth of local knowledge of the Island and excellent water and ocean experience. He’ll make sure you are in safe hands whilst paddling around, give you lots of interesting local information or help you improve your supping skills if you are keen to progress to higher levels. Most of all, you can be sure you will have a relaxing and fun time.
