Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Summer SUP School, an ASI accredited learn to stand up paddle school, located at Crookhaven, Co. Cork, on the most southwestern tip of the island of Ireland, only 4 ½ hours drive (380 kms) south of Dublin.
Summer SUP is owned and operated by Muirti O'Cearnaigh. He has been teaching water sports for over 16 years full time and also owns a lifeguard training school and is a Beach Lifeguard Trainer. He also holds multiple watersports coaching qualifications.
Muirti decided to set up Summer SUP School after travelling around the world and experiencing SUP in the southern hemisphere. He saw the potential to offer SUP in the local area with its wide variety of waterways ideal for paddling from flat water to SUP surfing.
Muirti holds ASI Level 1 and Level 2 SUP Instructor accreditation for Enclosed Flat Water and Exposed Waters locations, water rescue and first aid qualifications. He is assisted in the SUP school with experienced and accredited SUP instructors.
Summer SUP offers group and private SUP lessons, rentals, Summer Camps, certificate courses, SUP tours and fitness workouts for kids, adults, parties, school groups, backpackers, universities and corporates.
Lessons are held at the tiny hamlet of Crookhaven which lies about as far down in south-west Cork as you can go without falling in to the sea. Crookhaven is tucked snugly on the sheltered side of a narrow neck of land which creates a deep inlet - the 'crooked haven' which gave the little settlement its name.
It's the very epitome of a sleepy fishing village. Brightly-coloured boats bob at anchor; pastel-coloured cottages slumber in the sunshine along the sloping street. There is also a small campsite and village shop and pub.
Crookhaven's golden sand, crystal clear water and sheltered waters are idyllic for stand up paddling whether you are a beginner or looking to increase your skills. Or you just want to take in the beautiful scenery all around.
