Stand up paddle-boarding is though to have originated in Polynesia. It became popular in Hawaii in the 1950’s when Waikiki locals began making the most of the high angle of visibility both above the water and below. This helped the ‘Beach Boys’ lifesavers to keep an eye on the safety of thrill seeking tourists. The flat waves of Hawaii in 2000 created an influx in the interest of the sport.
