Hi Matt, can you tell us about some of your favorite spots to paddle:
I take my SUP with me where ever I travel, and nowadays my travel is usually based around water...be it lakes or the ocean! I love paddling in Portugal, the water is bright blue and the coastline is incredible, particularly around the Algarve where there some caves to explore along the coast. A couple of years ago we did a road trip and took a boat from Barcelona to Sardinia. Sardinia is an incredible SUP location. We drove all around the island and paddled at every given opportunity. The ocean here is warm and completely clear. We then took a boat to Corsica which is equally as amazing. The rock formations around the coast make it a super spot for paddling. Locally, the spots that I get to SUP more often are the lakes. Sevilla is a great city but a lot of people don´t realise the amazing countryside surrounding it.I have three main lakes that I SUP close to home: Aznalcollar, Zufre and Aracena. These lakes are beautiful and just a short drive from Sevilla.
Location overview, tell us about your paddling spot:
Sevilla is great because it is central to some really cool SUP locations. We have the flat water lakes but also the Atlantic Ocean is only 1 hour from Sevilla so we do a mix of both, dependent upon the clients. What are your signature services?
Lake and Soul was born out of a love for adventures in nature. We try and offer our customers a unique experience tailored to their own wishes. Ultimately, we are a SUP tours company and like to get people out of the city to explore another side to Andalucia. Our SUP tours are epic: we collect people from their accommodation and take them to a lake where we offer some basic SUP tuition before embarking on our adventure. At the end of the tour, we reflect with an ice-cold beer or lemonade lakeside. In addition, as we are registered with the Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI), we offer courses based on their SUPWise Programme. This takes paddlers from complete beginners to competent paddlers and gives them 10 hours of paddling time. It´s great to see people develop their skills over these hours and we can do this for children too aged 8+.When is your season?
As Andalucia has 300 days of sunshine and the water temperatures are always moderate, we offer our services year-round. Obviously the summer - May to September has the
hottest months but even in the winter, we can have sunny 20º+ days so it is an ideal SUP location. Are there any local attractions paddlers might be interested in?
Sevilla has a wakeboard centre on a lake just on the edge of the city centre which is pretty awesome. Also, if you head to the Huelva coastline (about 1 hour) there is a wealth of watersports: wind-surfing, sailing etc. Head a bit further afield to the Cadiz coastline (1 ½ to 2 hours) and you will find some awesome Spanish surfing spots. Aside from water sports, Sevilla is an amazing city to explore. Its beautiful winding cobbled streets, lead you on an awesome urban adventure enshrined in history and you can spend the day discovering the city punctuated with pit stops at one of the hundreds of tapas bars and experience the delicious Spanish cuisine washed down with an ice-cold cerveza (beer) or tinto de verano (summer wine). What about other activities in the area?
Lake and Soul is always keen to add to its offering and at the moment we are developing our MTB tours as there are some awesome trails to explore around Sevilla - from lazy rides through olive groves, to the more challenging terrain in Sierra Norte. This is the same for our hiking tours where we can take clients on hikes through stunning countryside and explore
the laid-back Andalusian lifestyle by stopping off in some traditional Spanish villages. If climbing is your thing, we can use an artificial wall to practise your top rope climbing and bouldering skills. As we tailor to the clients need we can mix and match these awesome activities eg. climb in the morning - paddle in the afternoon. In addition we are currently working with another amazing company to offer a SUP and Yoga retreat in the stunning Aracena….watch this space!!!Would you recommend any food and drink places in the area?
Recommending food and drink in the Sevilla province is extremely difficult as there are tapas bars on every corner...literally! Stop at any of these to try the traditional tapas on offer. Must-have dishes include: Solomillo Iberico (traditional pork), garbanzos y espinacas (spinach and chick peas), Jamon, jamon and more jamon - choose an expensive cut (bellota) and experience a truly mouth-watering cured ham from the pigs that are reared locally in Aracena. In addition, if seafood is your thing, include the famous Spanish Paella on your table
and some gambas (prawns). There are also lots of ´fusion-tapas´ restaurants in the trendier parts of Sevilla. Around the Alameda, you will find lots of these - you can still order tapas but they have a modern twist. Duo tapas and Ovejas Negras are fine examples of this! Out by the lakes, ´La Estacion´ is an awesome restaurant - an old railway station turned into a restaurant. Sit on the terrace over- looking the lake and enjoy an amazing selection of foods. We can be sure to stop off here on our tours if you want to include a food experience. What about local places to stay?
Sevilla has everything you need in accommodation from amazing boutique hotels, through to awesome hostels. Hostel A2C, Oasis, Toc are some of the budget options. The Alfonso Hotel is a luxury option in the very centre of Sevilla or if you want to stay in the countryside there are lots of ´Casa rurals´ offering you bed and breakfast. El Estacion, as mentioned above, has
rooms as well so if you want to wake up overlooking a lake - this is a perfect place to stay.Buddy Deal: 10% off all of our services
