Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Mid Cheshire College, an ASI accredited learn to stand up paddle school, located at Hartford in Cheshire, 3 ½ hours drive north from London (195 miles) and 1 hour from Liverpool. (40 miles).
Mid Cheshire College is a college of further education. They offer vocational courses to young people using the ASI SUP Wise learn to SUP program. The courses are also available to adults, corporate groups and team building sessions and tourists and families.
The college also has a SUP Club offering the opportunity to meet up with other paddlers, have lessons or just try SUPing. The club organises regular paddling sessions and tours in the local area plus trips and tours into Snowdonia Lake District or surrounding water locations.
Mid Cheshire College SUP program is headed up by Brian Cadwallader who is an experienced paddler, outdoors instructor and teacher / trainer with a wealth of knowledge of the local area. He is also a British Sign Language communicator.
Brian holds ASI SUP Instructor qualifications, BCU L2 Kayak and Canoe instructor, white water rescue and first aid as well as a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) and Level 3 Assessor and Level 4 Quality Assurance certificate (TAQA L3-4). He also previously worked as an officer with Cheshire Fire and Rescue service, International Search and Rescue, Urban search and rescue, swift water rescue, powerboat for rescue.
The College is next to the River Weaver and Flashes (lakes) in Mid Cheshire. It’s an area of unspoilt beauty, as nature intended with an abundance of water ways ideal for paddling.
The Weaver River meanders in the Winsford Flashes which are 3 enclosed lakes. As the river leaves the Flashes it opens up into the River Weaver navigation, with an 18 mile canoe trail along its length open to the public, well maintained by the Canal and River Trust.
It's a great area to explore on your SUP. You will see structures of historical importance including the Hayhurst Swing Bridge and the Norwich Town Bridge, believed to be the earliest swing bridges powered by electricity. You also paddle past the United Kingdom’s biggest rock salt mine at Winsford, with mountains of rock salt towering above you.
Because the areas is so tranquil, many wildlife are also attracted to the area.
