This is an easy 3hr entry level activity for the whole family (paddling, optional jumps, Stand Up Paddle boarding S.U.P. ) and lots of fun in unique untold scenery. The Green Route Tubing & S.U.P. Combo gets you into remote unexplored sections of the Plaatbos Indigenous forest Nature Reserve.
Step 1
The3hr activity begins in Storms River Village at Tube 'n Axe Lodge with a welcome, orientation briefing and 30min kit upStep 2
A 20min drive though thick indigenous forest gets us to our drop off point where each participant receives his/her own tube.Step 3
From here its a short 100m walk to rivers edge at the low water bridge in the old Storms River PassStep 4 ... get wet!
A final few do's and don'ts and safety demonstrations conclude the formalities and we set off on a flat water upstream paddle into the calm of the Plaatbos Indigenous Forest Nature ReserveStep 5...freshen up
In the first 100m you'll get to try your nerves on a 6m high optional rock jump... don't worry, for those not so daring there re lower alternativesStep 6 ...the river bed walk
Satisfied with the jumps, we paddle across the pool to a sandy beach where we get out and walk up 250m of rocky river bed with our Tubes to where our next challenge awaits....Step 7...S.U.P.
Tubes are are laid down on the river banks and Stand Up Paddleboards mounted... If you've never done this, this flatwater pool is a great place to start... don't worry, you can sit and paddle these, or, paddle them like a surfboard too.Step 8...unwind
The 660m flatwater paddle on SUP's takes us deep into the calm of the Plaatbos where sightings of Fish Eagle, Knysna Turaco and Pied Kingfisher are common place. We've even seen Leopard and Otters here before.Step 9..paddle
The experience of Tubing & SUPPING the 'Green Route' section of The Storms River involves relaxed, entry level activity with lots of swimming, splashing, and laughing.Step 10...back to the tubes
Now we paddle back to where we left our Tubes... remember that we had walked up the side of the river to get here.The score!
S.U.P's safely tethered again its feet up and bums up as we tackle the down stream tubing run through Chainsaw rapid
