Race Crew
A team captain is required for every boat (50-mile race). At minimum, the captain should be present at the start, Hugo Point Park, and the finish. The captain should be prepared to provide water, food, medication, and aid to their paddler(s). If the paddler(s) choose to exit the race it is the responsibility of the team captain to notify race officials. It is recommended that the team captain use some sort of location sharing to track their paddler(s).
Handoff Locations
Water/food/aid may be provided by crews at the following locations: Cedar Hill Park, I-10 East boat ramp, Hugo Point Park. Any other handoff locations are prohibited and must be approved by race officials for use, in the case of an emergency.
The Race Course
With a few exceptions, the race course will be unmarked. Paddlers will be responsible for their own navigation. This does not open the course route up to interpretation. The course map posted online is THE OFFICIAL RACE COURSE.
Deviating from the course may result in disqualification or a time penalty, at the discretion of the race officials. If/when a paddler accidentally deviates from the course they must turn around and return to the course as soon as they realize their error. They are not permitted to find a new route or short cut.
A buoy will be placed at each checkpoint near the officials. Paddlers will be required to make contact with the buoy. Contact can be with a hand, paddle, or the boat. Turning around the buoy is not required. Paddlers may turn around however they choose, as long as contact is made with the buoy.
