Learn how to stand up paddle and have SUP lessons at Channel Islands Outfitters, an ASI accredited learn to stand up paddle school, located at Santa Barbara, California, approx. 1 hour 45 minute drive north of Los Angeles.
Channel Islands Outfitters (CIO) is owned and operated by Garrett Kababik, Fraser Kersey and Johnny Dresser. All highly experienced in the outdoors, with 1000’s of hours of outdoors and SUP instruction experience between them.
At an early age, Garrett stated training as a guide on the Delaware Water Gap in Pennsylvania. In 2004 he graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Recreation Management and a focus in Outdoor Education.
Fraser spent summers on the Gulf of Mexico and Winters in the North Atlantic, worked as a lifeguard for 5 seasons and has coached swimming, lacrosse, and CPR/First-Aid courses. Holding a VP in Business, Fraser previously established own his consulting business focusing on sustainable development.
JD started attending Santa Barbara City College in 2002 in order to obtain a computer networking degree, but soon realized that his passion lay elsewhere. He lives to paddle.
They hold ASI SUP Instructor qualifications Level 1 SUP Instructor Enclosed Flat Water, Beginner Surf to SUP Downwind and Paddling as well as holding water rescue, and first aid qualifications.
The school was started in 2010, with a mission of providing honest and quality services, and treating the earth and ocean with respect. In July of 2013 CIO became a Certified Benefit Corporation and partnered with 1% For the Planet later that same year.
Channel Islands Outfitters offers private and group SUP lessons and adventure tours and certificate courses for a range of paddling locations from enclosed flat water, surf to touring and downwinding, for family groups, kids, adults, the more mature, parties, school groups and corporate groups.
